Black Ghosts' Requiem
An-Xiisz’s population is predominantly hobgoblin and elven, an unusual mix that was created after the War of Crimson Ash. It was a result of occupying hobgoblins mixing with the feyborn refugees from Thiir’Vaas. Over time the two cultures mixed and created their own identity. Beyond the above races there is a large number of shifters, as well as notable human, deva and orc communities. Each province is named after its capital city. Each of these capital cities is home to over hundred thousand souls, except for the small Annan-vax. Each province has between two and five cities that have populations as large as fifty thousand, and a number of much smaller towns and villages.
At this time An-Xiisz is ruled by King Ethiias An’vesz, who was elected in PS (Post Sundering) 187, after his predecessor, King Xeresz Ran III died without an heir. Below the King is the Grand Assembly, composed of five Senators from each district, and two Senators from each of the free cities in the Umbra, forty four Senators in all. The Grand Assembly together has the power equal to that of the King, assuming they can achieve ninety percent majority. The other duty of the Assembly is to elect a new King, should one die without an heir. While the Grand Assembly deals with most of the lawmaking business, the King and his ministers deal with the day to day running of the country.
An-Xiisz was created a century ago (Post Sundering year 106) out of the ruins of Roosa’ki, following the Sundering and various wars with Aascheral. It consisted of six Core Provinces and two Sky Provinces up in the Sunscape. By the year PS 132 free cities of Naata and Tesch signed a alliance treaty with An-Xiisz, creating the An-Xiisz Commonwealth. Both the Naata and Tesch gave An-Xiisz a strong foothold down in the Umbra.
In PS 158 cult of the Emptiness Within in Voliisz attempted to bring on the End of Days. By the time the cult was put down the city of Voliisz lie in ruins, smoldering with green flames decades after the Purge. The ruins today are writhing with black, leafless thorn vines. The city is given a wide berth, now known as the Blackthorn Woods. The woods themselves surround the ruins of Voliisz for miles in all directions, and on the braves and most desperate dare to venture deeper than a mile in. Lands that once were part of the Voliisz province were divided between neighboring provinces. Since the Purge worship of the Emptiness Within has been treated as treason.
By PS 169 the Border Wars with Aascheral are a constant threat. While not full fledged wars, they were a long series of skirmishers along the border. As a result both the Black Wisp’s Pass and Seven Gales Pass were heavily fortified and permanently maintain large, combat ready garrisons. This is a place to serve if you want to advance in the military ranks.
