Character Creation and Leveling Up

Since you are all provided premade characters, creation rules will not be an issue. However in case you are wondering what was I thinking when I made your characters, here is the house rules I used during creation.

  • 25 point buy
  • Free bonus expertise feat
  • Free bonus defense feat
  • Free bonus feat that is related to the character theme or a bonus skill
  • Five trained skills

Leveling Up

Leveling up follows all the normal rules for 4e leveling up, except:

  • Your skills do not get the half level bonus
  • You get +1 to three skills each level
  • At levels 4, 8, 14, 18, 24 and 28 you get the following benefits:
    • Get +1 to three abilities (instead of two)
    • You get a talent based on your role
    • Gain a bonus “non combat” feat from the list below:
      • Skill training, skill focus, skill power
      • Skill power must be a non combat power
      • For any other non combat feat ask me

Magic Items

Only “common” magic items can be crafted. As part of the enchanting process they gain rudimentary awareness. As you use the items they absorb part of you, growing in power. This is where “uncommon” and “rare” items come from. Alternately you can acquire more powerful items through adventuring. In general the harder the item is to get the more power from the previous owner it will retain. Once sold to a store/merchant the true power of the item becomes dormant, and the item reverts to its “common” baseline.
